Oreo Focaccia Dunkers, with glaze.

These Oreo focaccia dunkers went so fast in my house. They taste exactly like fried dough from the fair, topped with that sweet sugary Oreo coating and dripping with a vanilla glaze. Sourdough focaccia keeps the dough airy and balances out the sweet coating. I use my original focaccia dough recipe because it's such a great base dough, especially for frying or adding sweetness. I at first envisioned something similar to the dunker desserts from Pizza Hut and Domino's. Those delectable sugary coated bread sticks were so comforting and satisfying after a salty meal. I then decided to fuse my focaccia dough with the inspiration from the Fair, and Pizza Hut cinnamon sticks.

The cool thing about this recipe is it's not fried! The addition of olive oil in the focaccia dough and the pan helps crisp up the dough in the pan. Before baking, the addition of pats of butter and more blended Oreos makes for the perfect confection. Dust with powdered sugar when it cools down and your kitchen will smell like you just stepped into the sugar shack at the State fair. I made a simple glaze and drizzled it over the Oreo dunkers, and then had a little bowl of it on the side for dipping and dunking! This dough leftover would make an amazing french toast casserole! Find a french toast casserole recipe you love and add these as the leftover/stale bread. That would be TOO delicious.

What You'll Need:

  1. One Original Focaccia Sourdough. (Up to step 7)

  2. 15 crushed oreos

  3. 1/2 cup brown sugar

  4. 1/3 cup cocoa powder

  5. 5 tb salted butter, cold

  6. Powdered sugar for dusting

    Vanilla Glaze:
  7. 1 cup powdered sugar

  8. 1 pinch salt

  9. 1 tsp vanilla extract

  10. 1/4 cup milk plus 1 tbsp.

Let's Make The Oreo Focaccia Dunkers:

  • Once you have completed the focaccia dough up to step 7, you will pour out your dough into a well oiled 9x13 pan. Let it sit for 20 minutes at room temperature.

  • Pre-heat your oven to 425°F.

  • Add half of your crushed oreos, and all of your cocoa powder and brown sugar to the middle of the dough. With oiled hands, fold the dough over like an envelope, Then press down, and do this 2 more times. Let rest 10 minutes.

  • Top your dough with the rest of the crushed Oreos and pats of the cold butter all over the top. Cut 2 or 3 small seams in the dough to allow steam to come out.

  • Bake for 25 minutes and let cool completely. Cut into 16 sticks. Top with powdered sugar and a vanilla glaze. Enjoy!
