In Dim Sum restaurants, you can often find this amazing menu item called "beef roll". It is the best mashup of flavors and textures, and SO cheap and easy to recreate at home. Frozen scallion pancakes are KEY, and you can find them at either trader joe's or your asian grocery store. I use the taiwanese style, they are chewier and most cohesive with rolling.
What You'll Need:
1 lb Shaved steak or ground beef
Green onions (the greens only)
1 package of frozen scallion pancakes
Hoisin sauce (for serving)
Cucumbers cut into matchsticks (for serving)
Cilantro (for serving)
Lime quarters (for serving)
For the Marinade:
3 TB soy sauce
1 TB honey
2 fresh cloves of garlic, chopped
1 TB mirin
green onions (the whites)
Taiwan-Style Beef Rolls ala my kitchen
Let's Make It:
Make the marinade by combining all ingredients into a bowl, mixing well and add your beef. Let sit for about 30min to an hour.
Get a non-stick pan or a well-oiled skillet up to a medium-high heat. Place 1-2 scallion pancakes onto the skillet and flip after about a minute. Set aside on a plate for assembly.
In that same pan, make sure the heat is up high and add your marinated beef. Cook for about 3-4 minutes (until the pink is gone)
Set up your assembly area, think "white people taco night", with your scallion pancakes, beef, green onions, cilantro, cucumbers, and hoisin sauce. Roll and enjoy!
